Poopy in Potty

As you might recall from my last post, Gracie has been trying out the potty quite a bit lately. Well, a few weeks ago we took her to Target to pick out her very own training toilet. After we brought it home, she wanted to sit on it in the living room while we watched the Elmo Potty Time video that she and Daddy picked out at the library; then she let her baby sit on the potty. She was so excited about it that the next day when we were driving home from daycare, she kept saying "poopy in potty! poopy in potty!" over and over. THEN... when we got home, she went right to her potty and pooped!! It was so awesome! We made a huge deal out of it, of course (we even took a picture). She had to call Grandma to share her big news and everything. We haven't had a repeat performance since then, but we are quite proud of our little pooping wonder.

A lot has happened in the past month. Of particular note is Grace's move from the Butterflies classroom at school (1-year olds) to the Ladybugs (2-year olds). In just the short amount of time since she's moved up, we have already noticed a marked difference in her vocabulary. One of our favorite Gracie words right now is "beetle." She moves her tongue around in a very pronounced way as she articulates the word. So cute. Also, as we're driving home from daycare each day, I've come to rely on Grace to repeatedly announce our arrival. With her lips in an elongated "O"shape, she says "hoooooome! hoooooome!" about a dozen times before we finally pull into the garage. (Then it's "Daddy! Daddy!" until we walk in the door.)

Several weeks ago, Chad and Gracie had a daddy/daughter weekend at Grandma's while I enjoyed some much-needed alone time. They had a great time going to the beach, playing with all of Grandma's toys, chasing Bogey the dog, and relaxing. A couple of weekends later, we made a quick trip to see all of GG's birth family. It was a whirlwind visit, but we had a nice time catching up with everyone.

Gosh, it's hard to remember all that we've been up to since mid-February. We keep finding cool new playgrounds for Gracie to explore, and it seems like there's always something fun going on around town. Tomorrow, we're going to a little-kid carnival at a local high school where GG can get her picture taken with the Easter Bunny. And on Sunday, we're taking GG to her very first circus!

For the past few weeks, we've really been struggling to get G to pick up her toys before bath time. When she finally decides to do what she's told, we reward her with big hugs and kisses. Well, it's so cute because now she gets so excited about the hugs & kisses that she races to put her toys away and comes running at us with her arms outstretched to redeem her hugs. She runs back and forth between Chad and I several times before she feels sufficiently rewarded. It's the best thing ever! Then... after she brushes her teeth and gets stripped down for her bath, she comes flying down the hall - buck naked, giggling, and squealing - and hides in the living room. It's a fun game that none of us tire of, especially Grace.

Oh, I am so bad for not updating this site since February. The longer I go between posts, the harder it is to capture all of the amazing feats that Grace accomplishes on a daily basis. I wish I could just bottle up all of the sweet, hilarious, oh-so-Gracie things she says and does. In the blink of an eye, she has grown from a baby to a full-fledged toddler and I know I'll soon be looking back at these days thinking, "where has the time gone?"
